Thursday, February 21, 2019 - Mexicali Factory Tour Day

Thursday morning a van picked us up in front of the hotel to go to the Mitsubishi factory in Mexicali, Mexico. Quite a variety of weather - we even saw some snow!

Our ride.

Inside the van - Adam is facing the camera. The lights in the ceiling could change colors.

Another view inside the van - Ryan is on his phone and Takako is in the foreground.

Snow in the mountains.

More snow.

As we came down the other side of the mountains, the landscape changed. We saw lots of windmills, too.

Approaching the border.
Filling out work permits before crossing the border into Mexico.
Border crossing.

Almost there!

Inside Mexico - writing on overpass indicates we are there.
This photo also gives an idea of what country we are in.
Before touring the factory, we went to lunch. Lunch was an amazing seafood feast.

Our table for lunch.

Dipping sauces.

Tomato soup with fish.

Shrimp taco.

1st seafood platter: Raw scallops, crab, ceviche, shrimp, crab claws in back

2nd seafood platter: grilled baby octopus, shrimp in peppers, shrimp fried rice, fish fillet below fried fish chunks.

My plate from the last platter - a little of everything. I ate it all!

Back to the factory after lunch. We were give a thorough tour  but no photos were allowed inside. Very modern factory.

The work permit we filled out before crossing the border had to be turned in before we left the factory. The trip back to San Diego took longer than coming as we had to wait over an hour to cross the border and weather conditions had deteriorated so made for slow going back across the mountains.  The day ended with a delicious dinner at an all-you-can-eat Brazilian steakhouse - the food was again, fabulous.

Dinner locale after a long day.
